Score: Rock 1, RIAA 0

Well, okay …. RIAA (Recording Industry Artists of America) probably has more than 0, considering all of it’s lawsuits, but as Slashdot says, Pearl Jam just released a video under the Creative Commons license.

From Slashdot, links intact:

minitrue writes “Pearl Jam released their first music video in quite a while under a Creative Commons license allowing anyone to “legally copy, distribute and share the clip” for noncommercial purposes. Creative Commons thinks this may be the first video produced by a major label ever to be CC-licensed. So although the file is only available as a free download via Google Video through May 24, fans can continue sharing it online themselves in perpetuity.”

I just got done watching said video, and though I have a bias for Pearl Jam, as they are among my favorite bands, I must say the video is rather profound. It has an artistic sort of feel (albeit disturbing) with an emphasis on the macabre.

The interesting thing about the video is that it’s only available till May 24. Now, this encourages people to start sharing the “free” video on Bittorrent and other P2P networks. Whatch RIAA try to find a way to sue for this! :)
